Federal officials said Hernandez accepted cash, jewelry, and travel from people working for the district's insurance carrier. They also accused her of paying an independent insurance consultant for her influence on the district's board of trustees and her vote on numerous insurance services contracts awarded to the companies, with whom three co-conspirators had a financial interest.

The three co-conspirators have pleaded guilty.
