SAN ANTONIO – The family of a woman killed after she was hit by an SUV in far West Bexar County is asking for justice after learning that the driver who hit her is still on the run.
The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning on Silver Maple Street, just off Potranco Road outside of Loop 1604.
Joshua Puente, the brother of the victim, said he got a call early Sunday morning from University Hospital informing him that his sister, Vanessa G. Puente, 38, had been killed in an accident.
"From the nurses and the people I've talked to, they said that she didn't suffer," said Puente. "It was pretty instant, but that doesn't make it any better."
Bexar County deputies said they were called to the scene at about 1:45 a.m. and found Vanessa Puente on the ground. A man who was with her told deputies that she had been hit by a dark colored SUV, but that the driver took off.
Vanessa's brother, Joshua, said he can't believe that his sister is gone.
"She was a great person, a great teacher," said Puente. "She loved her students at Southwest High School and she leaves a loving family. My kids are like her kids. It's not fair what happened."
And while nothing can bring his sister back, Puente said the family wants to find the person responsible for her death, hoping that will bring some closure.
"That's my sister, my sister that you hit," said Puente. "So, if you're watching, please turn yourself in because if not, we will find you. We will find you. We're not going to give up until we find you."
Bexar County sheriff's investigators are looking for a dark-colored SUV, possibly an older model Ford Expedition with front-end damage on the passenger side.
