SAN ANTONIO – Monday morning started out with a knock on the door from firefighters for people in seven homes near Raymond Rimkus Park in Leon Valley.
Heavy rain fell fast and furiously on the area, causing Huebner Creek to swell and rush down the middle of Poss Road near Evers Road.

"It came down pretty hard all at once," said Chief Luis Valdez, with the Leon Valley Fire Department. "Huebner Creek rose so quickly that it caused us to start evacuating some homes and activating our sirens."
Six homes on Cherryleaf Street were evacuated, along with one other directly across Poss Road.
Andres Gonzalez said he didn't hesitate to follow the orders he received from firefighters shortly after 8 a.m.

"It's not the first time it's happened," he said. "This time they were a little more persistent on us about getting outside the house and getting outside the area because it came up pretty quick."
Although he described the evacuation as intense, Gonzalez said he had a feeling that everything would be all right. He said he didn't bother taking along any personal belongings.
"We've seen worse than this so I just took my son and got out of the house for a little bit, let it calm down," he said.
Within a couple of hours, he said he felt things were safe and returned home.

Rescuers, meanwhile, kept a close watch on the weather from a nearby command post. Although they set up shop in the neighborhood, they stood ready for trouble anywhere in the city.
As of 11:30 a.m., there had been no injuries related to flooding in Leon Valley.
