Floresville ISD releases video of moment child hit by vehicle while trying to board bus

Driver ticketed and facing child endangerment charge

FLORESVILLE, Texas – Floresville ISD released disturbing video Thursday that shows the moment a 10-year-old student was hit by a vehicle as he tried to get on his school bus.

The driver of the bus seemed to explain to the passenger that cars often pass him during stops, and in an instant, the video shows the moment Jorge Leija is hit by a car that was attempting to pass the bus on the right shoulder on Sept. 14.

Leija was airlifted to University Hospital, where he stayed overnight, but was released the next day after no signs of head trauma.

The bus has its stop signs out and flashing lights. The driver received a ticket for passing the bus and faces a potential charge of endangerment of a child.

The case is still pending in the Wilson County District Attorney’s Office.
