'He died alone without us': Family of fatal shooting victim asks public for help in finding killer

Herion Chase shot to death outside of Big Cassel's Smokehouse

SAN ANTONIO – The family of a man found shot outside of a Far East Side barbecue restaurant on Saturday wants help finding the killer.

"He died alone without us, and all we want is justice," said Ebony Davis, the sister of Herion Chase.

Police said two men were fighting in the parking lot of Big Cassel's Smokehouse when one pulled out a gun and fired several shots. Chase, 44, was hit and died at the scene.

Police said another person arrived at Northeast Baptist Hospital with gunshot wounds saying they were also shot at the same location.

Chase's family doesn't believe he was involved in the reported fight and say he didn't deserve what happened to him.

"He's a good man," Davis said. "He might have lived the life of whatever, but he changed his life. He was about his kids, his family. If you knew him, he would cry with you, he would laugh with you. He'd even pray for you."

Chase loved everyone, Davis said, and had five kids. It's partly for their sake that she wants help finding the shooter, who police said took off from the scene.

"We just need help," Davis said. "We don't want anybody else to get hurt in this. We just really want my mother heart to be at rest and my brother to go to heaven for peace, for his kids."

Davis said she hopes the shooter or anyone else involved will turn himself or herself in, or if someone knows something, they will come forward.

If you have information, you can call the SAPD Homicide Unit at 210-207-7635.
