SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police suspended an officer for five days for using department records while working off-duty, according to records obtained by KSAT Investigates.
Officer Jason Owen worked as a courtesy officer at an apartment complex on the Northwest Side for nearly a year but didn’t tell SAPD, suspension records state.

The department learned about his unreported employment after Owen wrote in a July 2024 police report that he was a courtesy officer.
Owen wrote that he checked calls for service in the complex because of malfunctioning gates and vehicle burglaries, records state.
According to suspension records, Owen was working as a courtesy officer while he was on limited duty status. Owen did not submit a permit to work as a courtesy officer.
Owen, who also lived at the apartment complex, did not tell SAPD about his change of address, which the department said was a policy violation.
Own said he stopped working at the complex in August 2024.
This is not Owen’s first time getting in trouble with SAPD.
Records show he was suspended in 2019 for nearly a month for calling a man a homophobic slur.
Owen has been with SAPD since 2015, according to records from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
