SAN ANTONIO – A lieutenant and two sergeants from the San Antonio Police Department Special Victims Unit have been transferred from the unit for "failing to properly supervise the unit," Police Chief William McManus said.
He said other disciplinary actions "are in the final stages."

The unit is assigned to investigate cases of human trafficking, according to the city of San Antonio's website.

McManus said in a news release that the transfers were made after an internal audit of some cases assigned to the unit revealed that the cases "had not been properly investigated."
Internal Affairs investigated the matter, McManus said.
He said that the cases in question were reassigned to other investigators.

"To further ensure that no other cases have been mishandled, I have requested a complete, outside review of all SVU cases by city attorneys with expert knowledge in this area. SAPD's responsibility to investigate reported crimes and assist victims is one of our core missions. This investigation will continue until we are certain that all cases have been properly investigated," McManus said.
