SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police were involved in a standoff with a man at a far West Side apartment for several hours early Thursday morning.

Officers were called around 11 p.m. to the Brynwood Apartments in the 8700 block of Bowens Crossing after receiving word of a disturbance involving a man yelling.

According to police, officers arrived and contacted the man, but could not determine if anyone else was inside the apartment. That’s when, police said, as the officers began to leave, a single gunshot was heard.

Police said other officers arrived and secured the area around the apartment. A neighbor told police that two voices had been heard arguing inside.

Authorities say a 29-year-old woman was able to escape the apartment and taken to safety by police.

The woman told investigators that she was assaulted by the man, and that he threatened to kill her. She told officers that the man had a rifle and fired the gunshot inside the apartment, police said.

Authorities tried communicating with the man who told them he would shoot police and then himself. The woman was taken to police headquarters and a warrant for the man’s arrest was gathered on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police, however, did not say if the man left the house, or if he chose to remain inside. As of now, it is unclear as to exactly how the standoff ended.

There were no reports of injuries.
