Man shot in neck after multiple rounds fired on East Side road

Shooting victim went to motel with dad before police were called

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his 20s was hospitalized after he was shot in the neck on the East Side Thursday morning.

San Antonio police said the man was hit at least once when someone fired multiple rounds at his vehicle in the 600 block of Gembler Road, not far from Creekview Drive.

The man and his father then drove to a hotel in the 3600 block of Interstate 35 near Splashtown, where police were called.

Police arrived and EMS transported him to a hospital with non-life-threatening injures. Police said he was walking and talking as first responders tended to him.

Police are investigating why the victim went to the hotel instead of a hospital, but said an occupant inside his vehicle was staying at the hotel.

There is “very limited information on the vehicle,” police said, and it is believed a high-caliber rifle was used in the shooting. Shell casings were found on Gembler Road, police said.

Multiple rounds hit the shooting victim’s car on the driver’s side.
