SAN ANTONIO – The last week has been an emotional time for Rogelio and Annette Martinez after they said their truck was stolen outside their home off Harrow Drive.
“We work hard for our stuff. We worked hard to keep that vehicle in our family,” Annette said.
Surveillance video captured a man walking up to the truck and driving off moments later.
Rogelio recently lost his job due to the pandemic, and he now only has one form of transportation for his family.
“You lose your job, and then you lose your truck now, too. It sets you back a whole bunch,” he said.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s website, there were 6,087 motor-vehicle thefts in 2018 in San Antonio. The number increased 7,781 in 2019.
Kimberly and Carmen Garcia live down the streets from the Martinez family. The said their car was broken into last year outside their home.
“It’s kind of scary not to know who is out here in the middle of the night,” said Carmen.
KSAT crime-tracked the area from Stable Vista to New Valley Hi Drive. There were seven car break-ins reported and four cars stolen in the past six months, including the Martinezes truck. During the same time frame last year, there were five car break-ins reported and two cars stolen.
“I’m a bit paranoid. I double-check, triple-check some nights,” Kimberly said.
Rogelio said he is left feeling anxious over what could happen next.
“You can’t sleep at night. You’re just wondering if they’re going to come back and break into your house next,” he said.
The truck is a red 2006 Chevy Silverado. If you have information about the theft, contact the police.
