SAN ANTONIO – Police arrested a man following a standoff after breaking into a West Side home and attacking an 88-year-old man.
The attack happened around 10:30 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of Southwest 37th Street, police say.
Officers said the victim woke up to a man standing over him. The two got into a fight that ended outside the home when family members of the victim who live nearby pushed the attacker away.
When officers arrived at the scene, the attacker barricaded himself in the victim’s home.
Negotiators were called, but police were able to capture the attacker and take him into custody when he tried to sneak through the back door.
Investigators say the attacker will receive a mental evaluation before charges are filed.
