Girl may have knowingly exposed hundreds to COVID-19 at country music concert, Val Verde County Judge says

Judge Lewis Owens says he plans to release the girl’s name

SAN ANTONIO – The Val Verde County Judge said someone from the Del Río area may have knowingly exposed hundreds of people to COVID-19 at a country music event in San Antonio.

Judge Lewis Owens recently posted a strong and familiar message on Facebook about stopping the spread of the deadly virus.

”We’re getting a lot of phone calls. Why our cases are spiking? It’s not up to us anymore, folks. It’s up to you,” Owens said in the Facebook post.

In the post, Owens was specifically calling out a girl from the Del Río area who he said went to a Cody Johnson concert at Cowboys Dancehall this past weekend, knowing she was positive for COVID-19.

”There’s Snapchat pictures evidently that y’all took with your mask on your wrist and y’all having a good time. You’re positive, lady. You should’ve never left,” Owens said in the post.

Owens said after the picture surfaced, the girl tried to cover it up.

”Then you have the nerve, the audacity, to lie to the tracers that you got in a fight with your mother and all this other stuff. That’s how come you weren’t home and then you confess,” Owens said.

Owens knows the damage may have already been done.

”People like her are what brings that stuff back in and kill families,” he said.

The girl Owens was referring to was issued a citation, and the judge said he plans to release her name as soon as possible to make an example out of her.

Cowboys Dancehall was cited for two violations of the city’s Emergency Health Declaration due to the large crowd at the concerts. The dance hall is now one citation away from being closed down.

TABC is also investigating possible alcohol violations from the events over the weekend.
