SAPD searching for driver who ran over, killed man who was walking to work

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered

San Antonio police and Crime Stoppers are searching for a driver accused of running over a 66-year-old man on April 1 in the 1100 block of Lamar Street.. (KSAT)

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police and Crime Stoppers are searching for a driver accused of running over a 66-year-old man who later died from his injuries.

The victim, Belton Johnson, was walking to work at 5:22 a.m. April 1 westbound in the 1100 block of Lamar Street when he was struck from behind by a car.

The vehicle was a maroon, 4-door sedan and was stolen, police said.

Johnson was left on the road as the vehicle drove off, according to a Crime Stoppers report. The driver of the car did not check on the victim and they never called the police.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene after another driver found his body.

Crime Stoppers is willing to pay up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
