SAN ANTONIO – A lauded Detroit-style pizza joint in Austin is expanding to South Texas thanks to an outside investment that will double the brand’s size.

Via 313 announced Thursday that it will open a restaurant in San Antonio and add two locations in the Austin suburbs of Round Rock and Cedar Park.

The brand will also expand outside of Texas for the first time by adding three locations in Utah — in the cities of Orem, Lehi, and Murray, which are located between Salt Lake City and Provo.

Via 313 did not specify when or where the Alamo City location will open in its news release. KSAT has reached out for more details, and this story will be updated when that information becomes available.

The six new locations are slated to open by the end of the year.

“My brother and I started Via 313 10 years ago because we wanted to share the style of pizza we grew up eating and loved, Detroit-style pizza, with the world,” Via 313 co-founder Zane Hunt said. “After sharing our passion for high-quality hospitality and pizza with the people of Austin, we are beyond excited to bring what we do to Orem, Lehi, and Murray, Utah, as well as Round Rock, Cedar Park, and San Antonio, Texas.”

“Austin has shown us that the masses are ready and eager for a unique and tasty pizza experience.”

The pizzeria currently has restaurants at 3016 Guadalupe St., 1802 E 6th St. and 6705 E. Hwy 290. It also has two food trailers on West 6th Street and Rainey Street.

It is more than doubling its size due to an investment from Savory Fund in October that is part of its inaugural $100 million fund. It is unclear how much of that money is going to Via 313.

The news release states that Savory Fund helps “exciting startup brands” in gaining traction and investments.

The support could help launch Via 313 to “become a major pizza player across the U.S.,” the release states.

Zane and Brandon Hunt opened Via 313 from a food trailer in December 2011 in Austin. Last year, it was named Independent Pizzeria of the Year by Pizza Today.
