SAN ANTONIO – The truck maker Navistar is hiring hundreds of positions for its facility located on the city’s South Side.
KSAT12 got an exclusive look inside Navistar’s facility Tuesday morning.
“We will be building class six to eight vehicles here, (both) diesel and electric and hopefully hydrogen,” said Rod Spencer, plant director for Navistar San Antonio.
The nearly one million square foot facility will feature a body shop, a paint shop, general assembly building and logistics center.
“We have a lot of hourly employees that we are hiring as we ramp up and getting ready for production,” Spencer said.
Spencer said Navistar has openings for about 300 job positions. They are looking for engineers, maintenance technicians, production assembly workers and many more.
“You don’t need any experience for assembly. Hourly people can apply. We’ll train them on the skill sets that they need,” Spencer said.
Navistar in San Antonio expects to start production next year.
“We turn dirt in November of 2020. So it’s about a year ago now that we started building the plant and we’ll be ready to build our first truck and put our first truck on line January 3rd,” Spencer said.
