Crews continue work on Medina County wildfire to get to 100% containment

MEDINA COUNTY, Texas – The work to get the Das Goat fire in Medina County 100% contained is going “OK,” according to fire officials Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency Services District 1 Chief Clint Cooke said crews are still working a lot of hot spots that are showing up with the dry air and wind shifts.

Officials say they are not planning to call it 100% contained for a day or two.

The Das Goat wildfire, sparked by a vehicle fire, started Friday night. The fire has destroyed three homes, a few barns, and around 1,100 acres in the last five days. It also prompted multiple evacuations.

People who had been forced out have been allowed to return home.

No deaths or serious injuries have been reported.
