Man shot in arm by person he met on dating app, police say

Incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. in Banyan Tree Apartments parking lot

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his 50s was shot in the arm in the parking lot of a Northeast Side apartment complex late Wednesday night, San Antonio police said.

Officers were called around 11:20 p.m. to the 4400 block of Walzem Road, not far from Austin Highway and Perrin Beitel Road after receiving word of a person wounded.

According to police, the man had met the suspect through a dating app and had agreed to meet the suspect at the Banyan Tree Apartments. That’s when, police say, as the pair were walking up the stairs to an apartment the suspect pulled out a flashlight and flashed it at the victim, demanding money.

Police said the man refused and ran down the stairs, with the suspect chasing him. Once they got to the bottom of the stairs, the suspect pulled out a gun from his waistband and shot the man in the left arm, police said.

The victim got into his car and drove to Walzem Road, where he called for help. He was taken by EMS to Brooke Army Medical Center.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all answered the call.

SAPD said the suspect fled following the shooting. He has not been found.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
