A new store is scheduled to open April 29 at an existing H-E-B location at 651 S Walnut St., according to the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung.

Construction work on the new store has been in progress since February of 2021 after the grocer announced the upgraded space will be larger than the current store, which opened in 1994.

The new location will diversify and increase customer offerings as the city’s population continues to swell, allowing space for 75% more items across 30% more square footage, according to the Herald-Zeitung.

As homage to the city’s European immigrant roots, a large international section will prioritize German fair, in addition to expanding offerings of the company’s Meal Simple line, sushi options, a health foods section, and a two-story location of True Texas BBQ where patrons can dine-in or drive thru, and a new fuel station.

Ahead of the opening, demolition is planned for the existing building and the parking lot will be expanded.
