SAPD: 16-year-old boy wounded in exchange of gunfire outside SW Side apartment complex

Officers called around 12:15 a.m. to 500 block of Briggs Avenue

SAN ANTONIO – An exchange of gunfire in front of an apartment complex has wounded a 16-year-old boy early Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Briggs Avenue, not far from New Laredo Highway on the city’s Southwest Side.

According to police, a gun battle had erupted in the parking lot of the apartment complex, wounding the teen and hitting a house across the street. A few vehicles in the parking lot were also struck by the gunfire, police said.

The wounded teen was taken by EMS to University Hospital in critical condition. His name has not been released.

Authorities say they are now looking for a suspect who could possibly live at the apartments. A description of the suspect was not given.

SAPD also did not give a reason as to why the exchange of gunfire happened.

So far, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
