New surveillance video released in unsolved San Antonio murder

SAPD hopes new video, reward money increase will lead to a suspect

SAN ANTONIO – Nearly seven months after the fatal stabbing of 40-year-old Christopher Olivarez, police have not made an arrest and have not been able to identify the killer seen on surveillance video.

They hope a newly released video and increased reward money will lead to an arrest.

Olivarez’s body was found outside his home on Sept. 25 on the Southwest Side. Police say several videos show a person of interest leaving the home on Kirk Place.

According to police, the alleged killer drove off in Olivarez’s car. That car was found burned a few days later but with no sign of the killer.

Olivarez’s mother, Mary Coronado, told KSAT 12 News that she cries every night as police search for her son’s killer.

“My god I went into shock, my heart went down to the floor. I cried so much I couldn’t stop,” she said.

She misses the simple things the most, like her son’s visits, the talks, and the hugs he would give her, she said. He was killed just before her birthday.

“It was four days before my birthday, we had plans. He made all these plans for us and we didn’t get to make it,” Coronado said.

She said that each day for the last several months has been just as hard as the day she got the news. Although heartbroken, she is only focused on one thing — justice for her son.

His mother, family and friends have raised $12,000 to add to the Crime Stoppers reward. The total reward money is now at $17,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.
