SAPD searching for man who stole mail from nearly 50 mailboxes at North Side apartments

Mailbox burglar manages to outrun police on a motorcycle

SAN ANTONIO – A man on a motorcycle made a mess of some mailboxes at a North Side apartment complex, then slipped past police officers who caught him in the act.

San Antonio police had received a call after 4:30 a.m. Friday for a theft in progress in the 13400 block of Blanco Road.

An officer who was the first to arrive at the Landera apartments told KSAT 12 News that he saw the burglar and tried to catch him.

However, the man was able to run to a motorcycle and speed off.

Officers determined that he had broken into 48 mailboxes, including a couple of package-sized mailboxes.

As he left, though, that burglar dropped a bag in the parking lot that appeared to contain at least some of the mail, police said.

They were not sure at the time whether they recovered everything that was stolen.

Police also are investigating whether this burglar may be connected to other mailbox break-ins throughout the city.

Officers spent about an hour driving around the area, looking for the burglar but he got away.

The only description they had of him was that he was on a black motorcycle and wearing a black helmet.
