SAN ANTONIO – Southwest Independent School District is hosting a grand opening on Thursday to celebrate its new Aquatic Center.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. at 9333 SW Loop 410.
The 35,000-square-foot state-of-the-art swimming facility cost $24 million to build, with the city contributing $4 million, according to the district.
The facility will be home to the district athletics administration. The amenities include locker rooms, a strength weight room, and a multi-purpose classroom to develop swimming, diving, and water polo athletes, according to SWISD.
In addition to hosting athletic competitions the new space will offer swimming lessons for community members.
“Thanks to community support that funded this project, our students will not only have first-class educational opportunities but first-class extracurricular facilities as well,” said SWISD Superintendent Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft. “This SWISD Aquatic Center will elevate our student-athletes and give them the opportunity needed to be competitive.”
