String of missing people, bodies found in Bandera County has community on edge

Community members are taking extra precautions

BANDERA COUNTY – Four people have been reported missing since April in Bandera County.

The Bandera County Sheriff’s Office believes they have recovered the bodies of three of those missing people so far.

Bandera County Sheriff Daniel Butts tells us the cases are not connected and that there is no increased threat to residents. However, the sheriff’s reassurance isn’t stopping the Bandera community from taking extra precautions.

“Folks are definitely on edge. I know a lot of the other moms with teenage daughters, they don’t want to do anything by themselves. They’re scared,” said Tracey Bowers.

“I lock my doors more than I used to. I don’t think I’d be comfortable walking around after dark,” said Tanya Fain.

“Need to start protecting themselves, maybe carry weapons. Don’t go alone,” said Rodney Dyer.

All three people we spoke to live in Bandera County.

Butts said one case they think is suicide and the other homicide. They’re still waiting for the manner of death and a positive ID for the most recent body found.

“I don’t see where there’s any evidence that we have a serial person out here attacking people,” said Butts. “Don’t believe everything you hear on Facebook or read on Facebook. We go by the evidence as it’s presented, and we follow that evidence to wherever it takes us.”
