Likely electrical fire damages shack found behind South Side home

Fire was called in just before 2 a.m. in 2800 block of Mission Road

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio firefighters responded to a fire behind a home on the city’s South Side early Tuesday morning.

The fire was called in just before 2 a.m. at a home in the 2800 block of Mission Road, not far from East Southcross and Belden Avenue.

Firefighters said when they arrived, they found the property had four small shacks behind the house. A man who lives on the property said he had heard a pop and saw the flames.

The fire was put out quickly and no one was hurt. Fire officials say they believe the fire was electrical in nature, since CPS Energy found an electrical split to the back, with wires possibly not wired correctly. Only one of the shacks was severely damaged, which was said to be a “work area.”

The San Antonio Fire Department and San Antonio Police Department both answered the call.

The investigation into the fire is ongoing, fire officials said.
