SAN ANTONIO – A local group is helping veterans share their stories through music.
The nonprofit Soldier Songs and Voices San Antonio is giving veterans and the military a space where they can be creative and express themselves.
Retired Army veteran Deborah Wesloh said joining the group changed her life.
“I was diagnosed with cancer about six years ago and kind of looking for something to do,” Wesloh said.
Wesloh learned how to both write and play music.
“I’m in awe every time I pull out my guitar and sing a song and I say, ‘hey, I wrote that song.’ Usually with a lot of help,” Wesloh said.
The nonprofit’s goal is to create communities that honor veterans of all generations.
“We meet monthly and we do one hour of song craft and one hour of play,” Cliff McLean, a spokesperson of Soldier Songs and Voices San Antonio said.
Some members of the group will be performing Friday, Nov. 11 at Alamo Plaza and they hope to connect with the community then.
