SAN ANTONIO – Health inspectors had to temporarily shut down a Northeast Side convenience store kitchen in October due to a lack of hot water, and two Jim’s restaurants were cited for being dirty and employees not using gloves, according to health inspection reports.
410 Corner Stop
The 410 Corner Stop, located in the 2300 block of Northeast Loop 410, was cited for numerous health violations, including eight repeat violations.
The same business was featured on Behind the Kitchen Door just five months ago when they had an 80. A new inspection in October resulted in a score of 71.
According to the inspector’s report, raw eggs were being stored in a bucket at room temperature, tomatoes inside a refrigerator had mold on them and there was more mold found inside the ice machine.
The kitchen’s biggest violation was not having hot water. Health inspectors immediately shut down the kitchen until repairs were made a few days later. The business is once again operating.
Jim’s Coffee Shop
The Jim’s Coffee Shop, located in the 8200 block of Marbach Road, was just featured on BKD in October when it got an 82. A new inspection in November resulted in a 76.
It appeared the inspector was following up on a complaint about rotten meat. The inspector didn’t find any rotten meat, but the business had to throw out chorizo found under a grill temping at 100 degrees. All of the food in a cooler next to the grill was also tossed in the trash because it was too warm.
There was bare-hand food contact by employees, the cooks weren’t wearing gloves and no one washed their hands during the inspection.
Employees were also seen pushing around dirty food water on the floor due to a clogged drain.
Daily inspections were ordered until all issues were resolved.
Jim’s Restaurant
The Jim’s Restaurant at Culebra and Loop 1604 returned with an 80, which was a slight improvement from the 76 it had when we featured it back in June.
They had numerous hand-washing violations, including a worker seen touching raw chicken then returning to cook other foods without washing their hands or changing gloves.
Another worker was caught eating while washing dishes.
The whole place needed a serious cleaning. The inspector noted they need to “intensify cleaning efforts,” including removing mold from the walls and food build-up and soils on the floors, walls, and ceiling.
