CANYON LAKE, Texas – A former teacher at Canyon Lake High School was arrested on Nov. 14 for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Devon Hooper, 38, was booked into Comal County Jail and released the same day on a charge of improper relationship between educator and student, court records show.

Comal County Sheriff’s Office detectives learned of the allegations in October after the victim’s parents filed a police report.

The Herald-Zeitung reported that Hooper sent the victim explicit photographs and messages for at least a month.

“There were several mentions of sexual acts, meeting outside of school, and touching,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by the paper. Hooper also allegedly sent photos of herself in lingerie to the victim.

Hooper was also reportedly the victim’s teacher this year and had also been the victim’s teacher the year prior.

Canyon Lake High School Principal Mark Oberholtzer said Hooper resigned prior to being arrested, and the district waited to notify parents about the allegations until after the investigation was concluded.

“Several messages observed showed that Devon was aware that her actions were illegal and that she could be fired and or arrested for her actions with (the boy),” according to the criminal complaint.

Comal County Sheriff’s deputies said Hooper admitted to the communications and provided a statement to school officials in an attempt to explain the relationship.

According to MyCanyonLake, Hooper is married to another Canyon Lake High School staff member.

“I know that it can be quite disturbing to learn that one of our former teachers was charged with a crime such as this,” said Principal Mark Oberholtzer in a statement sent to parents.

It’s the same wording Canyon High School Principal Dustin Davisson used when he sent a letter to parents regarding another teacher who was arrested for having an inapprpriate relationship with a student in 2021.

Emily Anderson was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony, in August 2021. The former special education inclusion support teacher pleaded guilty earlier this week to sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator and student charges after admitting to having sex with a student in a class closet.
