SAN ANTONIO – Several people are without a place to stay after a fire damaged their East Side home late Thursday night, the San Antonio Fire Department said.
The fire was called in around 11 p.m. at a home in the 4200 block of Roark Drive, not far from East Houston Street and South W.W. White Road.
Firefighters say seven people inside the home smelled smoke and then realized the garage was on fire. The fire was contained to the garage and firefighters got a quick knock down of the fire. The house however, sustained both smoke and water damage.
Fire officials said none of the residents were hurt, but firefighters found a rabbit alive and a cat dead in one of the bedrooms.
Damage to the home is estimated at $40,000.
Fire crews are still trying to determine what sparked the flames.
