Public Works employees were called to help ACS officers after receiving word of a puppy that got stuck in a storm drain. The puppy’s mom was found not far from the area, pacing nervously.

Officers took the cover off of the maintenance hole and lowered down to the underground level to begin searching for the puppy. They could hear its cries as it was lost in the tunnels, ACS said.

As the puppy’s mother continued to worry above ground, it wasn’t long before she could breathe easier. An ACS officer re-emerged to the ground level with the scared little female puppy in-hand.

A Good Samaritan found the puppy’s siblings -- a boy and a girl -- nearby and brought them to the officers. ACS has since named the dog family Momma Goose and her babies Hickory, Dickory and Dock.

The girls, Hickory and Dickory, were uninjured. Though, their brother Dock appeared to have been hit by a vehicle, according to ACS. The puppies and their mother were taken to the animal shelter for further treatment.

“Momma Goose, Hickory, Dickory and Dock are at Animal Care Services and recovering from their (not so great) adventure,” ACS said in a statement. “Dock is nursing an injured leg and he could use a safe place to rest and recover with his Mom and sisters.”

Anyone interested in fostering the puppies or their mama can sign up here.
