He is accused of robbing two Dollar General stores, two Dollar Tree stores, a PetSmart store and a BigLots store between Jan. 28 and Jan. 31.

He was initially arrested by San Antonio police on Jan. 31, when he was caught red-handed at a dollar store on the South Side.

At the time, police said they recognized a vehicle linked to the robberies and followed it to multiple stores.

Kirkwood was driving the vehicle and tried to enter several stores, but they were closed. He then went to the dollar store in the 2100 block of Zarzamora and attempted to rob it at gunpoint.

Within moments, police detained Kirkwood.

A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office said he was in custody in the Bexar County Jail until his arrest on federal charges on Monday.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison. The ATF and SAPD are investigating the case.
