San Antonio R&B, soul duo set to hit stage at SXSW Music Festival

MOJOE is set to perform on March 18 during the ‘Galaxy’ showcase

AUSTIN, Texas – The 2023 South by Southwest Music Festival is underway in downtown Austin and one of the artists performing on stage is San Antonio duo MOJOE. The R&B duo have been making music together for nearly two decades.

Me and Easy went to high school together when he moved from New Orleans to San Antonio. We were just classmates and from there we just built a brotherhood,” said Treson Scipio, whose stage name is Tre Love Supreme. “We started recording back in 2002-03, somewhere around there, and got a chance to sign with Mathew Knowles and Music World.”

Tre described their music as a gumbo pot of R&B, soul and hip-hop. The duo also performs with a live band.

“We used to listen to a lot of music together, the likes of D’Angelo, Raphael Saadiq, the Neo soul movement was going on pretty heavy at that time. That’s how we built that bond. Our music consists of jazz, blues, rock. All those genres. I think we just let each other be free and open and have an understanding of our backgrounds as far as music,” Tre said. “We got the name because we were trying to display that we were more than the average Joe.”

Tre said it’s always an honor for them to perform at SXSW and share their music with a live audience.

“It feels great especially with San Antonio on our back. We want to show that San Antonio has something to say for sure,” Tre said.

MOJOE will perform March 18 at “The Galaxy” showcase at The Speakeasy in Austin. They are one of at least 10 San Antonio artists performing this year at SXSW. Some of those artists are:

7098, Akasha, BabiBoi, Garrett T. Capps & NASA Country, Jay Amari, Mariachi Las Coronelas, Prince Euro, Yung Bambi, Yung Mijita.
