SAN ANTONIO – The 2023 Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair kicked off Thursday at Market Square and more than 125,000 people are expected to come out to the four-day event.
This is the first time since the pandemic in 2020 that the event is at full capacity, but organizers this year will have to deal with the weather.
Storms are expected overnight Thursday and high winds and winter-like temperatures throughout the weekend.
Organizers said despite the weather one would expect in the fall and winter, everything will go on as scheduled.
“We may have to shut down some stages if the rain really comes down and endangers our public -- that’s the only way we would shut down anything,” Tejano Fan Fair Vice President Frank Salazar said.
Food vendors are preparing for the weather as they have tarps and covers ready to block the wind.
Rachel Rodriguez, who sells agua frescas at Market Square, said her crew is ready for the weather and still encourages people to come out.
“The music is going to be beautiful and it’s going to be a little chilly, but come over and have a drink without ice at least,” Rodriguez said.
More than 100 musical acts from across the country are scheduled to perform.
The fan fair is free to the public.
