SAISD librarians protest job cuts outside school board meeting

‘Our job is in danger,’ local librarian says

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio ISD librarians made their voices heard on Tuesday night outside a school board meeting in response to the expected job cuts that they say will mostly be felt in school libraries.

“I am here to support all the librarians because our job is in danger,” said Valeria Perez, a librarian with SAISD.

“By cutting your librarians from our libraries and shutting those positions down, we are doing a huge disservice to our students and our community,” she continued.

SAISD tells KSAT the library services will be provided by staff members rather than certified librarians.

The district said it would work with the people affected by the cuts to find them other positions within SAISD.
