Police looking for clues about killer of man found shot at North Side apartment complex

Neighbors found man after hearing single gunshot

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio homicide investigators are looking for clues about the person who shot and killed a man in a stairwell at a North Side apartment complex.

Neighbors at the Palatia apartments, located on Sahara Drive near E. Ramsey, called 911 just before 6 a.m. Thursday.

They told officers they heard a single gunshot, then found the victim, bloodied and lying at the bottom of the stairwell.

“At that hour, people were still sleeping so all they heard was a gunshot,” said Sgt. Ramiro Juarez with SAPD. “When they came out, everyone was gone except for the victim.”

Police say the man had been shot in the face and was dead when they found him.

Juarez said the victim had no identification on him, so investigators did not know right away who he was or how old he was.

However, he said neighbors told them that the man appeared to be someone who had moved into the apartment complex recently.

Police planned to obtain a warrant to search the apartment that neighbors believe he occupied.

Investigators, meanwhile, set out to find whatever evidence they could.

“To find out what else they can find out with surveillance cameras in the area and any other witnesses. We’ve been canvassing the area for witnesses,” Juarez said.

As of late Thursday morning, police had not found anyone who actually had seen what happened.
