SAN ANTONIO – The South San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees voted 5-2 in favor of closing three campuses on Wednesday night.
Kazen Middle School, Athens Elementary and Kindred Elementary will be closed as recommended by Superintendent Henry Yzaguirre. The board previously voted against closing those schools and West Campus High School in January.
Wednesday’s agenda and vote did not include the West Campus High School.
The decision comes nearly a month after South San ISD announced it is facing a $12 million deficit. Student enrollment is also down 20% over the past decade.
The board did not specify when those schools would close or where students would go.
The superintendent will decide how to reassign staff and students.
