SAN ANTONIO – A man who San Antonio police said was “heavily impaired” and driving erratically on West Side highways led officers on a chase on Thursday morning.
SAPD said they received about 10-20 calls about a white SUV running vehicles off the road, driving across all lanes of the highway and hitting barriers.

Police said the driver was in the area of Loop 1604 and Highway 151, then traveled on eastbound Highway 90. Officers blocked traffic behind the SUV and initiated a chase.
At some point, he turned around and started to drive on westbound Highway 90 near Highway 151, where officers used a pit maneuver to stop the vehicle.
SAPD said an officer bumped the back of the SUV, causing him to lose control, hit the barrier wall and come to a stop. The man, in his 30s, was taken into custody.
Police said he was “heavily impaired” and may face charges of driving while intoxicated.
No one else was injured and the chase did not exceed speeds of 50 miles an hour, police said.
Lanes on Highway 90 were closed but they have since reopened.
