Customers who visit any H-E-B, Central Market, Joe V’s Smart Shop and Mi Tienda in Texas are eligible to receive one complimentary Earth Day bag, according to a press release from H-E-B.
Additional Earth Day reusable bags will be available for purchase for $1.50.
H-E-B has given out more than three million reusable bags in celebration of Earth Day since 2008.
This year’s bag highlights the H-E-B Our Texas, Our Future commitment, which is the company’s mission to increase awareness and education around sustainability efforts that help preserve land, water, and air in Texas, the press release states.
In addition to the free bags, H-E-B continued its annual School Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge in 2023.
More than 600 elementary schools in Texas collected over four million plastic bags for the challenge this year.
Schools that collect the most plastic bags receive H-E-B gift cards.
The San Antonio-area schools that collected the most bags as part of the challenge are:
- Randall Fields Elementary
- Hopkins Elementary
- Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary
Many H-E-B stores across the state also will host in-store events to celebrate Earth Day with their customers and communities.
Some H-E-B stores are also participating in a self-guided scavenger hunt, which will teach elementary-age children how they can adopt sustainable practices.
