SAN ANTONIO – An access road along westbound Interstate 10 in East Bexar County is closed Thursday morning due to a tanker truck crashing into a concrete barrier.
According to the Bexar County Emergency Services District 12, a truck driver was making a right turn from FM 1518 to the westbound access road of I-10 when he drove up onto a concrete barrier.
The truck is stuck on the wall right where the valve is to empty the tanker. Firefighters initially said the truck was leaking nonhazardous liquid sulfur, but later said there was only a small residual leak because the emergency valve kicked in.
Firefighters are still treating it as a hazardous spill and they are emptying the trailer before the truck can be moved.
The incident is not affecting the main lanes of the highway but traffic is backed up on 1518, as the access road is closed. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
Information about the incident is limited at this time. Bexar County and Schertz fire departments, as well as the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office are at the scene.
