Woman detained, man hospitalized after stabbing leads to standoff in New Braunfels, police say

Man’s condition unknown at this time

NEW BRAUNFELS – A woman was taken into custody after she triggered a standoff with New Braunfels police shortly after finding a man stabbed outside of her home, officials said.

The incident happened at 12:20 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 1200 block of Fredericksburg Road, near Ohio Avenue, in New Braunfels.

Officers were initially called for a stabbing and when they arrived on scene, they found a man with stab wounds.

The man was taken to a San Antonio hospital by EMS and his condition is currently unknown.

The woman was holed up inside the home and refused to come out, prompting a standoff involving officers, a crisis negotiation team and SWAT, according to NBPD.

New Braunfels High School was placed on lockdown during the standoff, so no one could enter or exit the school campus out of precaution, police said. A short time later, the lockdown was lifted.

Negotiations with the woman continued until 2:30 p.m. and eventually, she surrendered to police. She was detained and charges have not yet been released.
