BLUM, Texas – A fire in north Texas has destroyed five homes and still remains largely uncontained as residents in the Blum area are under a voluntary evacuation.

As of Wednesday evening, officials with the Texas A&M Forest Service say the Blum fire in Hill County is an estimated 250 acres and 20% contained.

However, Forest Service officials noted that the forward progression of the blaze has been stopped as fire crews continue to build a containment line along the flanks of the fire.

According to a press release from the Forest Service, five homes have been destroyed as of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and 25 more structures are under immediate threat.

No mandatory evacuations are in place for Blum but residents have been asked to take precautions and exit the area, taking all pets and personal items, including prescriptions, important papers and irreplaceable items if they do choose to voluntarily evacuate.
