IDEA Public Schools is celebrating after 133 campuses were recognized on the Alliance for a Healthier Generations’ 2023 list of “America’s Healthiest Schools.”
“We’ve taken great responsibility and pride providing really nutritious foods in our cafeteria, providing diverse menus,” said Eva Rodriguez, Vice President of Student Health and Wellness for IDEA Public Schools.
In order to make the list, schools had to meet certain criteria in quality nutrition, physical activity and wellness policies.
“Providing these meals, providing health services, providing active participation in physical education is really the cornerstone of supporting these scholars not just in the classroom but for the rest of their lives,” Rodriguez said.
Out of 781 schools reviewed nationwide, IDEA Public Schools had 133 on the list. Twenty-eight of those schools are here in San Antonio, including:
- IDEA Brackenridge Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Burke Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Carver Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Converse Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Eastside Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Ewing Halsell Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Hidden Meadow Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Ingram Hills Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Judson Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Mays Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Monterrey Park Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Robinson Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA South Flores Academy and College Preparatory
- IDEA Walzem Academy and College Preparatory
“If scholars are well fed, they learn better. If they’re focused and paying attention and their tummy’s aren’t rumbling they’re able to succeed academically, they’re able to go far, they’re able to really be their best selves,” said Rodriguez.
IDEA Public Schools has had its campuses make this list every year since 2019.
