SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio on Friday is hosting a two-day girls empowerment summit, designed to offer personal growth opportunities for local area teens.
The summit, with a theme of “Girls Can STEM,” is in its fifth year and is done with the coordination of the San Antonio Fire Department. The summit will offer middle and high-school-aged girls the opportunities to learn about career roles for women and also encourage positive body image, self-care and social media awareness.

The event will take place on Friday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the UTSA San Pedro campus, located at 506 Dolorosa Street and on Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Antonio Fire Academy, which is located at 300 S. Callaghan Road.
A press release said the first day of the summit will include a keynote talk by Siddhi Raut, a senior at Reagan High School who is the founder of SpaceTourist, a nonprofit with the goal of forming an inspiring community of passionate astronomy individuals. The summit also will offer lunch conversations with mentors and breakout sessions on topics such as chemistry, aviation, wage equity, and mental health.
Women in STEM will also discuss breaking into career fields and teach girls ways to overcome obstacles in their STEM careers.
The second day of the summit will be a partnership with the San Antonio Fire Department and will provide girls with the opportunity to participate in Camp Hero Like Her, which seeks to inspire young girls to consider a career in firefighting.
