SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio area drivers are seeing gas prices spike as spring break wraps up. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in San Antonio was $2.99 as of Thursday morning, according to AAA Texas. That’s a 13-cent increase from a week ago.
Comal County is also at $2.99 and Guadalupe County is at $2.98 as of Thursday morning.

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.04 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to AAA Texas. That price is 10 cents more than on this day last week and is four cents less per gallon compared to this date last year.
AAA Texas reports that the statewide average has been below the $3 mark since Oct. 27, 2023.
Across the state, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.43 per gallon while drivers in McAllen are paying the least at $2.89 per gallon.
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.41, which is one cent more when compared to this day last week and six cents less than the price per gallon at this same time last year.
Officials with AAA Texas say March is a popular month for spring break road travel and is usually when demand for fuel begins to climb. Prices could increase further in the days to come as more people hit the road before the weekend. Energy analysts say the switch to summer blends could also be contributing to the increase.
“With Spring Break travel underway, there’s more pressure on fuel demand which could cause prices to further increase over the next week,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas.
While gas prices are increasing, this year is not the most expensive spring break for fuel. When comparing the last ten years, 2022 remains the most expensive year for Texas gas prices over Spring Break. Prices two years ago reached nearly $4 for regular gasoline.
