Boy, 16, shot off part of his hand, officers said

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are trying to determine who owns a gun that a teen used to accidentally shoot himself in the hand.

The shooting happened after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday inside an apartment in the 200 block of Sonterra Boulevard.

According to officers at the scene, the 16-year-old “blew off part of his hand,” possibly while playing with a gun.

The teen was taken to a hospital with injuries that police say were not life-threatening.

As of Wednesday morning, it did not appear anyone was facing charges at this time in connection with the shooting.

Police said the case was still under investigation.

They said that includes investigators trying to determine how the teen got his hands on the gun.
