Apartment fire displaces residents, leaves dozens without power, SAFD says

Fire broke out around 5 p.m. Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – A dozen apartment units are ruined following a structure fire Tuesday on the Northeast Side, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

The fire broke out around 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the 12900 block of Park Crossing Drive, near Thousand Oaks Drive and Scarsdale.

Upon arrival, SAFD said the apartment building’s attic was heavily engulfed in flames. A second alarm was almost immediately put out.

Authorities said the flames started on the first floor of the building and extended to a unit’s balcony.

Residents were evacuated from their units as authorities searched, but the flames grew, halting searches.

The fire was put out within 15 minutes, but a couple dozen apartment units were affected.

Out of the 24 units in the apartment building, eight were severely damaged, and four sustained minor damage, SAFD said.

Fire officials said they’re attempting to restore electricity to the 12 unaffected units, but all 24 units in the building are without power.

Officials said 12 apartment units are unlivable. The American Red Cross and the apartments’ managers are working to relocate displaced residents.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
