SAN ANTONIO – A man arrested for capital murder in connection with a fatal shooting almost a year ago was the fourth person charged in the case, San Antonio police said.
Austyn Hartnett, 22, was the fourth person arrested for involvement in a shooting that saw the killing of two men at a North Side apartment complex on July 20, 2023.
According to police, officers arrived at the complex in the 1800 block of Lockhill Selma Road but did not find evidence of a shooting.
On July 21, 2023, the family of one of the victims reported them missing. Later, the second victim was reported missing.
A rental car, believed to be belonging to the victims, was later found at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Amanda Street, police said.
Officers found evidence the victims were in the vehicle, including “lots of blood,” police said. Homicide detectives used the vehicle’s tracking device as part of their investigation.
Police later found two bodies in a shallow grave in the 100 block of Mauerman Road on July 25, police said.
The bodies were identified to be the 20-year-old victims, police said. In a Thursday evening press conference, an SAPD spokesperson said they would not be naming the victims.
Almost a year later, with assistance from the FBI, two suspects were arrested on federal charges.
Esteban Flores, 24, and Bradlee Grinde, 20, were identified as part of this case and were charged additionally, police said.
The SAPD spokesperson did not indicate when Flores and Grinde were arrested.
On Wednesday, a third suspect, Michael Trevino, 22, was arrested, police said. Hartnett was arrested on Thursday.
Police said all four suspects are facing capital murder charges.
Harnett was also facing a charge of tampering with evidence for the vehicle being moved, police said.
SAPD said the other three suspects are facing tampering charges and abuse of a corpse.
