SAPD officers shoot, kill suspect wanted on three felony warrants, police chief says

The suspect told officers, ‘I’m going to kill you. I have a gun,’ police say

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police officers shot and killed a suspect wanted on three felony warrants, according to Chief William McManus.

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. on Saturday in the 700 block of Broadway Street near Brooklyn Avenue.

McManus said SAPD’s ROPE Unit and Crisis Response Team detectives had been tracking down the suspect since Friday.

The suspect was wanted on three felony warrants, including felon in possession of a firearm, continuous violence against the family, and aggravated promotion of prostitution.

McManus said the suspect was tracked down to a parking lot, and officers approached him.

As officers tried to remove the suspect from a vehicle, he refused and said, “I’m going to kill you. I have a gun,” McManus said.

The suspect started to dig in a backpack inside the vehicle, according to McManus. That’s when the officers fired gunshots and killed the suspect, police said.
