SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio police officer shot a woman after she pointed a gun at them on the Northwest Side, according to SAPD Chief William McManus.
The incident occurred before 6 p.m. Thursday in the 2800 block of Babcock Road near Medical Drive.
McManus said officers received a call for a suspicious person with a gun.
When responding officers arrived, they found a 39-year-old woman waving a handgun in the air. When they approached her, she turned toward them and raised the weapon in their direction, McManus said.
A preliminary report from SAPD released on Friday states one officer opened fire, striking the woman.
She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured.
The officer who shot her, who has less than one year of experience with SAPD, will be placed on administrative duty.
The SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit will investigate the shooting, and findings will be forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for review.
