SAN ANTONIO – A restaurant on the South Side announced Tuesday afternoon they would be permanently closing before the end of the year.
According to a post on their social media, Lala’s Gordita’s, on the 1600 block of Roosevelt Ave near US-90, has been serving San Antonio for the past nine years.

The restaurant is owned by the Pizzini family, who also opened Taco Hut in 1958 and Teka Molino in 1934.
On their Facebook, Lala’s Gordita’s posted this statement:
“With mixed emotions, I am announcing that December 24th will be Lala’s last day of business. We hope everyone will come by and share a laugh or tear, and send Lala’s off in grand style. On behalf of my staff and myself it’s been an honor and a pleasure to serve you these last five years. You’ll see my staff in other great dining places, no doubt, and I plan to enjoy my retirement.
On a personal note, I will miss the wonderful community Lala’s has created with our authentic food and friendly service. It’s been an extraordinary experience getting to know so many of you, and sharing my family’s legacy through our traditional Tex-Mex recipes.
I also want to encourage everyone to continue to support your local and independently owned restaurant community. It is a tough time for this industry of hardworking small business owners.
Once again San Antonio - THANK YOU!!!! Peace, love, and Merry Christmas, Steven Pizzini."

KSAT reached out to the restaurant for further comment.
Owner Steven Pizzini said in an email: “It’s been a very difficult year. Lala’s has struggled, as I think the entire restaurant industry has, this year in particular.
We have sent out two pleas for support on social media in the last 18 months. Both pleas garnering us a tremendous response. But, as some have said, that is a temporary fix.
Lala’s has always had many limitations to its facilities, (no indoor dining, lack of parking, among other issues) that I believe have limited our ability to be successful. But we have managed to persevere.
This year has just been impossible for me to carry on. My staff has been amazing, a great team, and a remarkable extended family to me. They deserve better from my business. Our customers are incredible, and supportive.
A true community has formed around my business, and this is the hardest part of letting go. We hope everyone comes out to say goodbye and eat what I consider some of the best TEX-MEX in San Antonio."
The restaurant specializes in traditional Tex-Mex dishes, such as stone ground masa. They had recently added new menu items to the menu like carne guisada, burritos and bean and cheese tacos on flour tortillas.
Lala’s Gorditas is offered as a menu option at Stable Hall. It is unclear at this time whether that would continue after Dec. 24, though KSAT did reach out to the venue for comment.
