Groundbreaking ceremony held for new Comal County mental health facility

The facility is expected to be complete by the end of 2025

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A new mental health resource is coming to Comal County.

The groundbreaking for the 16,000-square-foot facility was held Thursday in New Braunfels.

The facility will offer 16 beds and will be built by the county with funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities will operate the facility as Comal County’s population continues to grow.

“This is an opportunity to treat locally instead of them having to get shipped off to some private hospital that might be hundreds of miles away,” Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities chief executive officer Tod Citron said. “They are served here, stabilized in their own community, and then we refer them out locally for services.”

The facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
